Why is Darjeeling called the ‘champagne’ of tea?
Darjeeling tea is produced in the North East of India in a region called ‘Darjeeling’ hence the name. It’s grown at a very high altitude and due to its growing conditions, its black tea has a very unique taste which is highly sought after.
The first flush, which is considered the best crop, normally begins to be harvest at the end of March through to April. This is where the tea bush is plucked of the bud and two leaves before the manufacturing process begins.
You can watch my short video here about Darjeeling and how it should be brewed here.
Top Afternoon Tea Expert tip: Whenever you go for afternoon tea, I would encourage you to try a cup of Darjeeling if you haven’t already. Please remember though – don’t add milk. When brewed properly, it doesn’t need milk and would totally ruin the taste. Happy Tea Drinking!
